A Gift For My Dad

Image
For those of you who follow this blog frequently, you know my dad helps me out a LOT with my house.  Every other year or so, he comes to "visit" me in Indiana and spends basically his entire trip helping me with projects at my house. Sometimes it's a list of a lot of little things.  Sometimes it's a 600 sq ft patio or a complete sunroom reno.  He always is willing to go along with whatever it is I'm wanting to do- probably begrudgingly at times.  But he's never said no.  Well he did say he'd never do another paver patio after we completed mine.  Cuz let's be honest- that sucked.  But it's pretty!  All he's ever asked for in return is for me to make him a carrot cake.  Seriously.  Carrot cake.  He's saved me thousands of dollars not having to hire projects out- acting as my general contractor and he gets carrot cake.  I'd say I'm winning in these scenarios.   So I decided it was time for me to make him a gift- using the tools (lit

Finishing The Outdoor Furniture

Guys.  What a difference some stain makes.  Remember when I built the outdoor couches and side tables/coffee table?  Or the outdoor cooler?  No?  Let me refresh your memory. Well last weekend I got around to sanding them and finally staining them to match the Adirondack chairs.  You can see in the side tables picture below, that I had already started to sand them.  Being outdoors for a year definitely weathered them.   So the one on the left hasn't been sanded yet and the one on the right has.  Almost looks like it did a year ago when I built them!  Well EVERYTHING needed to be sanded.  Couches, tables, and cI thought it would but I really wanted to make sure every nook and cranny got at least a once over so that the stain would take and not look splotchy.  Unfortunately, I didn't get to the staining until the next day.  But once I did, they started to look so different!  They were beautiful.  That stain makes such a difference.  I already did this t

Sunroom Part 5... DECOR!

Well I finally have some time to sit down and do a blog.  Season has started, y'all.  So there is very little free time for me around the house right now.  Which stinks.  But boy, do I LOVE football season! So last we chatted about the sunroom, I had all of the stuff done that turned it from a screen porch... to a real sunroom.... Now came time to make it pretty.  And what is more pretty than pink?  Am I right?   So you saw the rug in the last post.  I struggled with this decision because I really liked the other rug.   It was really pretty in person, but just didn't go with everything else I had already purchased.  Did I return all of that for a rug and have to start over or just go with the other rug that really matched everything else already?  Plus I had just started re-doing the upstairs living room in a navy blue, so I didn't want this room to look too similar to the upstairs with the color scheme.  The other deciding factor was this room go

I HAVE A FENCE!!!!

Guys!  I have a fence!  Oh my god you don't even know what I'm feeling right now.  I HAVE A FENCE!  Man, this was a long time coming and a long, drawn out, bullshit process that I'm going to detail for you along with some pretty fence pictures at the end.  So if you want to read how my HOA is fucking terrible, continue on.  If not, just scroll to the bottom for pictures of MY NEW FENCE!!!!  OK, so I'm going to start of with two things.  One- I don't like being told 'No' and two- I don't like not getting my way.  Let that sink in.  If you can understand those two concepts, we'll get just along fine.  But if you can't, we'll have issues eventually.  Such is the case with my HOA, aka Demon Spawn.  So I started this process for a fence last May.  As in a year ago, May.  Not last month.  I got the info from my HOA on what was needed to apply for a fence, then went to the Town for my permit.  When talking to the Town, I was told by this douch
