When Life Hands You Lemons- Tequila Shots Anyone?

This weekend I knocked another project off of the To Do List.  This one I've been wanting to do for quite some time- but just haven't found the right fabric for it.  So it sat and sat and sat.  Until a series of unfortunate events happened.

It all started when Miss Wendy and I went shopping and I found this super cute duvet cover.

{My apologies to Colin & Justin for what is coming next}

I was just planning on swapping out the pink accents with some sort of bright green.  Except I couldn't find green anything- anywhere.  UGH.  So this sat on the bed for weeks.

Snoooooooooozefest.  Booooooooooring. Laaaaaaaaaaaaame.  It did come with pillow shams but those were being used for something else when I took this picture.  Just wait.  You'll see in a minute.  With the tan walls and gray bedding this room definitely needed a pop of color.  But there was just something about this duvet that wasn't sitting right with me.  I loved the look of it on the package- but in the room?  Not so much.  I mean, I loved the bold graphic print.  I loved the color.  But it was just not tickling my fancy. I think it was because I knew I'd have to paint the walls over cuz the tan did not go good with the gray.  I was fine painting the walls again but then realized that I'd have another gray room upstairs and that is what I didn't want to happen.  Two spare rooms, the bathroom right outside of them and the upstairs TV room that would all be the same color and that wasn't what I wanted.  So I decided to return the duvet and keep looking.  Except I did something I've never done before.  I lost the damn receipt.  Muther Chucker!  But before I could get too pissed- a light bulb went on in my head.  See- that probably wasn't event a minute.  Unless you read like a first grader.  Let's go to the front spare room for a second.

I've been looking for fabric for the headboard that I planned on making for this room and haven't been able to find anything at the local fabric store.  Everything I've found is old grandma looking.  And even though my saggy boobs might make me look like I'm a grandma- my birth certificate says otherwise.  So I tested out the pillows on top of the existing headboard to see if I liked it there- and BAM!  I was instantly in love.  I knew that the duvet was going to be my new headboard fabric!

So yesterday I headed out to Lowe's and picked up some plywood and a couple of 3X4X8 boards to make the headboard.  This bed already has a low headboard and rails that are brown pleather.  Hey- it was free.  Don't judge.  But I wanted something with a LOT more height to be more of a dramatic statement when you walked into the room.   And this was NOT the kind of statement that I'm talking about.

{whomp whomp}

Fast forward a few hours later and we went from this:

To this:

Don't you love it?  I absolutely do!!  I finally was able to awkwardly carry it into the room and get it up against the wall which caused some major boob sweat let me tell you. Not pretty.  So here's where I was before I went to bed last night.

Well this morning I tackled the rails.  Which meant that I had to take the entire bed apart.  Ew.

Once I got the rails back together I couldn't wait to see what it looked like set up again.  So without further ado.....

Don't you frickin love it????  I almost want to move into this bedroom because I love it so much.  Except I love my king size plush bed waaaaaaay more.  Not too shabby for a $40 duvet and about $20 worth of wood though, huh?

Now back to the boring spare room.  I actually am thinking about removing the existing bed in there and going with an upholstered headboard that I have just hanging out in one of my closets.  Cuz who doesn't just have extra headboards lying around?  Anyway- I have already switched the fabric out on this headboard once.  Guess it's time for me to find some fabric for this one cuz currently it's tan.  And since we already saw how boring the room already is- we can all agree that isn't going to work.

And in all honesty- I may have already found the fabric and recovered it.  Just keeping it real.  Now I just need to add some more elements into the room before she's ready for her debut at the debutante ball.  This room is going girly!
