Starting To Prettify My Outdoor Area

Image
Today was my first of two days off of work.  Talk about AWESOME!  I finally got out the lawn mower and attempted to get rid of all the dandelions that have taken up residency in my awful looking yard.  But that didn't work too well for me.  So I headed over to Lowe's for some guidance. They had the Scott's Turf Builder with Crabgrass Preventer and Turf Builder with Weed Control on special that if you bought both you got 20% off.  They were $53.94 and $49.97 each for the 15m bags.  So I picked them both up and saved myself $20+.  Hells to the yeah!  Then I headed over to the flower area and got myself some pretty hyacinths that were on sale for $4.98.  I grabbed two of the pink ones and two of the periwinkle ones.  Then I also grabbed a hanging flower pot with trailing petunias. I had picked up a bracket last summer to get a hanging pot but never ended up getting one.  So the minute I got home I busted out the drill and got to hanging her up.  I decided on the outside of

Where did the weekend go? Seriously.  The temperature was still pretty decent, but I didn't really get to enjoy it. Although I did open my doors to get a cross breeze in the house. So there’s that. Saturday was our first 8 mile run in our training program. So after lying in bed until 11am and then going downstairs to just crawl under a blanket on the couch, I finally got around to going to the gym around 1pm. It was still pretty cool outside but I figured that I would rather run on the treadmill than outside because I can see the miles ticking away on the screen. Plus it seems like when I run outside my perception of a mile is drastically different from reality. Those supposed 8 miles would have probably been 2.5. The minute I walked into the gym it was like hitting a hot steamy wall. It was so disgusting in there and there weren’t even a lot of people. I headed to the counter to give them my number and had to say something to the girl at the counter. Me (in my m

My Ghetto Garden.

Since I have a craptastic back yard full of weeds and barely there grass in the front of my yard that was discussed and shown in full detail in the last post.  I decided that I was going to make my first attempt at “gardening” a pretty easy one. I've never planted a thing in my life. So I had no clue what I was doing or if I’d even be good at it. I actually received a catalog in the mail from my friend Melissa and mapped out an entire landscaping project placing all kinds of flowers in different areas around the house, grouping them by season, color, and height. I was totally excited about it.   Annnnnnd then I decided not to do it just yet. Ugh. But my reasoning is pretty valid. I want to get a fence put up and I don’t want to spend money and time on an area that I will need to rip out if that’s where the fence is going to go. So I might as well wait until I have the fence in before I really dive into it. But I still wanted to put something in to have a little bit o

Let’s talk about this weather people!! OMG it has been absolutely gorgeous here the last couple of weeks. I’m going to be seriously disappointed if we get some freak snow storm or the temperatures go back down to what they should be at right now. I can’t believe that we have been in the 80s! That shit cray. As I’m sure you are all aware, this mama (thumbs pointed at me) doesn't like the cold. So if the temperature gods know what’s best for them, it’s to not mess with me and my warmer temps. Mutha fuckas!!  It would also be nice to be a darker shade of pale this summer. Seriously- I’m like translucent. You can literally see every vein in my arms. It’s kind gross. I’m not sure if I’ve shared my hatred for my back yard with you all yet. But let’s just say that we don’t get along and leave it at that. I fucking hate it.   The front and sides of the yard had sod when I moved into the house (which now has turned into the crappiest grass ever) and the back was seeded- but

It's Done!!!!! (For Now)

WHAT A WONDERFUL WEEKEND!!  Oh my god it was so nice outside.  Today I had my doors open and the heat turned off and had my first grilled dinner of the summer!  And I didn't even have to grill it myself.  Sweet! Yesterday started out with Miss Wendy giving me a call to get our running on. We had a 5 mile run yesterday which went surprisingly well given how my shins have been feeling the last week or so.  Luckily I think it's from climbing up and down on a ladder and leaning on it to install lights and framing that has been making them sore.  We will see since I should be done with the ladder for a while.  Can I get a hell yeah? First thing Friday morning I started installing the molding onto the mirror and it went surprisingly well for not knowing what the heck I was doing.  I started out by just placing the pieces of the frame against the mirror and using painters tape to hold them up just to make sure that I could get it to line up.

Some Extras For The Bathroom

Image
Are ya’ll sick of hearing about my bathroom yet?   I’m almost sick of talking about it, that’s for sure!!   One thing I did mention briefly before was that I found a tile that I like from The Tile Shop about 6 months ago when this bathroom makeover was just a figment of my imagination.   At that point, they had recently opened one up here in Indy on the east side so I was totally excited.  Plus they are a sponsor of one of the DIY blogs that I follow so I have a discount code for 10% off my order from there.   Which can certainly add up when you have a lot of square feet to replace.  So I saved the tile in my favorites and I occasionally click on the link to stare and oogle it and say, “How you doin?” in my Joey voice.   And I’m totally being serious.  I do this.  It’s kinda sad.  I really need to get laid. Well Miss Wendy and I might head over to The Tile Shop this weekend because she is planning on tiling the wall behind her sinks in their bathroom and she found some tile on t

Installing Light Fixtures, Take Two!

So I got out of work early yesterday and it was gorgeous outside!  It’s been so long since it’s been 60 degrees and sunny.   I fucking loved it!  I headed over to the grocery since my bread was buy one get one free and at $3.99 a loaf- I was all over that sale!  It really is the simple things people.  While I was on that side of town I also had to return the Liquid Nails that I bought last week and swap it out.  Apparently the “Heavy Duty Construction Grade” LN that is meant for every kind of surface doesn’t work on mirrors.  Maybe I should have looked at the teenie tiny small print that says “not recommended for mirrors.”  Whomp whomp.  So the $1.99 that I paid for that turned into $4.97 for one specific for mirrors.  Lesson learned.  Ugh.  This shit better work or mama’s gonna be pissed. Once back at the palace, I opened the windows and got some fresh air and sunlight into the normally dark and gloomy house.  Since I was home early I decided that I would add to my to-do list f

The "Almost" Almost Finished Bathroom

Image
Let's first start out with how we finished our first official week of training with 13 miles this week!  Super excited about that.  Although my shins aren't as happy as I am.  In fact, they are pretty pissed at me.  They'll get over it.  Looking forward to the next 9 weeks and running the race! So first thing this morning and by first thing I mean noon  I headed over to Home Depot to pick up the vanity lights for the 3 bathrooms.  $213 later......OUCH...... I headed back home to start installing them.  This is what I've been working with in my master bathroom.   After I finished painting last weekend I just couldn't FATHOM putting that awful light back up.  But since I didn't find lights when we went to 57 home stores I didn't really have a choice.  It was literally hung with 1 screw and had exposed wires and I only bothered putting 4 of the 8 bulbs back in.  It was a sad week, let me tell you.  Oh and see that non-painted part of the wall?  That
